October 20, 2016 - Week 3!!

Image
It's been a good week this week! I can't believe it's the start of week 3! On Tuesday, Sister Bonnie L. Oscarson (The general young women's president) came down to the Mexico City CCM and spoke to us! It was great. We heard her story about how her and her husband were called as mission presidents when she was 25 and her husband was 29. Also a story about her husband's mission companion and how he bore a testimony, which was all that was needed to make a dad say yes to baptism for their whole family.  A cool thought from this week: We were told always to raise the bar, because if we don't, we'll never progress. Many missionaries don't succeed because they become complacement and stop feeling the need to learn more.  My companion was called as our new district leader this week! It'll be a good challenge.  It's crazy how much we're learning here. The goal of the MTC is to have us learn 1500 to 2000 words, 350 to 500 phrases, and al...

October 13, 2016 - Hello From Mexico!

Image
Hello From Mexico! Note from parents: Elder Bruner apologizes for some of his grammar, he's trying to get used to the Spanish layout on his keyboard. Hey everyone! It's been a really overwhelming week at the CCM, it gets easier each day though. I'm feeling much better today than I did on day 1. I can drink the water here, but they said its hard water with minerals and they prefer for us to drink filtered water which they have lots of, so I just do that. I've only gotten a little stomache ache or two the first day just from nerves, but never because of the food. One elder in our district had to go to the hospital for a day because the food did something to him, I forgot exactly what, but after a day he was better, and hasn't had any problems since. America can really learn from the food here. Everything is so great, except the milk is a tiny bit different. For mom: I tried rice con leche, pretty much rice pudding. It was very good. It had apples and I think ...

October 4, 2016 - I made it!

Elder Bruner will be at the Mexico City MTC (CCM) for 6 weeks, then he'll head to Peru to change the world! Here's his first email (edited): I made it to the MTC. We have this time to send an email to parents only saying we made it. I am pretty nervous. I had an apple, and must've bit it wrong since my gums started bleeding. I heard that you will get sick (the runs) from having the beans, but it only lasts a little bit. I just don't like hearing all that. I didn't sleep on the plane, but I did barely on the bus ride to the MTC. I wish I had put tums in my shoulder bag because I think I need them a bit. The plane ride was a bit hard, but I made it through. It is very warm here and humid in Mexico. I'll need to drink lots of water. We don't have p-day this week, but my p-day will be on Thursday while I'm in the MTC.  I hope to hear from you all, and I'm just praying to be able to make it through. Love, Elder Bruner A...
