November 21, 2016 - One Week In Peru!

Image
Hey everyone! Week one finished in Peru! It's been a crazy week. Adjusting to the eating schedule is hardest. It's completely switched from America. They have a huge lunch, sometimes more than you think you can eat, and then a tiny breakfast and dinner. We usually eat dinner after everything we do, so it's about 9:30 pm when we eat. Sometimes later.  Already hearing and seeing stuff that reminds me of home, haha. We heard the song "Work" on the bus once. I saw a big Super Mario promotion on the side of a 2 story McDonalds. And I saw a Wii U section in a supermarket. I only miss those things when I see them. We work a lot, so I don't have time to think about videogames or stuff that I miss. Missionary work is first! Contacting people is the hardest for me. I feel so awkward and don't always know what to say, but I've been practicing! I usually talk second, but there are sometimes where my companion (Elder De Arce) has me talk first, so I try! D...

November 15, 2016 Letter from the Mission President

Dear Bruner Family, We are delighted to report to you that your son, Elder Preston Garth Bruner, has arrived to begin his service in La Misión Perú Lima Central.  He looks great, is healthy, and is very excited to begin his service. We are thrilled to receive him and we will take good care of him.  It was our privilege to share breakfast and lunch with him while he was being interviewed and trained in the mission office.  Elder Bruner has been assigned to the area of the mission called San Miguel 1.  He is in the Maranga Zone.  His companion is Elder De Arce.  Please be assured that these assignments are not made randomly, but are a matter of serious pondering and prayer. Elder Bruner was introduced to many of our missionaries at a general meeting held in a local stake house that same afternoon.  There he met and was joined with his new companion and trainer, Elder De Arce. We thank you for the support that you give to your son during hi...

November 15, 2016 Hello Peru!

Image
I'm here! I don't have much time to email this week, but I will hopefully get more later. Peru is crazy, and I don't know much about what is happening, but it will be alright. I thought I knew some spanish, but coming here made me realize I have much to learn. I'll be relying on the spirit a lot here. I'll definitely have to get used to the eating schedule, since the lunch here is bigger than dinner, so I won't be eating dinner for a while until later tonight.  The last few days in the CCM were full of prep and good deviontionals. There were some tears as we all parted ways. Our district was great. The plane ride wasn't terrible but not perfect. We left at midnight and got here at 6 AM, so it was a long night. Glad they fed us pasta (or chicken), a small salad, and some pudding. The one thing I didn't have much of last night and this morning was water. I had to empty my bottles for the flight and there wasn't really a place to refill them th...

November 10, 2016 - 4 More Days Until Peru!

Image
I can't believe I leave for Peru in only 4 days! It's been great here at the CCM, and I've made so many friends with people in our district and others as well.  Doritos here taste like the old guacamole pringles i loved, which brought back memories of the first time trying them, so thats cool. Cool stories of the week: Our teacher had asked how we were feeling after this time, and he said we didn't look too excited, so he took us out into the trees and just had us ponder for a moment and give a prayer of thanks to God, because we had progressed so much and our teacher could already see a change in us. After we prayed, the sun came out, and some of us (including me) thought that it was just like the first vision, and God was watching over us. It was a really spiritual moment and day for a lot of us. My companion Elder Leifson lost a ring a couple days ago that was really important to him, and we had prayed that night asking for a miracle to find it. This i...
