September 25, 2017 – Week 52!
Now is actually the halfway point of my mission I'm pretty sure..
To start off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!! WWOOOO!!!!!!
This week has been crazy. Let's start off with Tuesday.
Tuesday morning, we got a call as we were contacting from the zone leaders. They had us put the phone on speaker, and we listened as they told me that I was now district leader.... yep.. I'm now District Leader! Our district is just sisters though. Me and my companion are the only 2 Elders in the district. I had to hurry and plan a little lesson that day to give in the district meeting on Wednesday. Pretty crazy, but it'll be a good learning experience!
Then wednesday came and we went to a little family home evening / birthday party for Hermana Flor in our ward. We ate some Anticuchos (cow heart grilled on a stick, but it tastes like steak so it was really good), and were talking about experiences with bad spirits on the mission. Well, we kinda got scared (but not too much) because we had had some experiences recently this week too. So later that night we prayed to make sure that we could just stay protected from that stuff. We felt like "The other" (the name we now say, like how they try and not say Voldemort in Harry Potter) was trying to get us to not pray and we just felt weird. But we kept praying and then hurried home and we have felt better since then. CRAZY! That's a first on the mission and in my life.
Then on Thursday I was feeling a bit sick. We went to teach an investigator that the Sisters in our district had, and so we took a bus to Magdalena to teach the investigator, and then the investigator wasn't home, so we took a bus and returned to our sector. We then went to choir practice for a little bit to practice the song we'd sing on Sunday. Not much happened that day. But then I couldn't sleep in the night, and at midnight, I tossed my cookies for the first time here on the misison too.... Ugh I hate doing it but I felt better afterwards. I think some sea food I had the P Day before had made me sick. But the next day I felt good enough, so we just kept working like normal.
Friday was a normal day and we were able to have a good lesson with Hna Esther and her family! She told her family she was getting baptized, and they were okay with it! So she and lots of other investigators in our zone will be getting baptized on the 7th of October in a #NocheBlanca #WhiteNight, where all the baptisms of the zone (stake) will go to the stake center and get baptized all together in one program! It'll be awesome.
Saturday was a normal day too. We visited another one of our investigators, Leo, and he told us he'd be able to change his turns in his job to be able to go to church next Sunday! He could also get baptized this month, and possibly before the next transfers too!
Sunday was our ward conference, and a good num,ber of people came! My companion and I sang in the choir that the ward put together, and we sang a version of "All is well" and also the normal version of "A child's prayer". Both songs went great! The bishop and stake presidency complimented us and said it's the 1st time that they've heard a good men's section! It was a good day! We then had lunch with Hno Coloma and his wife, and we talked about the mission and it was great! They're awesome. We also had some new investigators that day, making 9 new investigators in total this week! (the most I've had in one week so far I think). Then I had to do the calls to my district and the zone leaders, so I had almost no time to write in my journal that night haha.
Whew, and now we're here today. Our shower was fixed, and so for the 1st time in 2 weeks we can finally shower with not freezing cold water in the winter. Ooh bathing in cold water in the winter is terrible, but you get used to it after a while haha.
Well, hope you all have a great week! Crazy weeks like this really strengthen your testimony, even though they may be a bit stressful at first! I know that God protects us. I know that we can ALWAYS pray to receive guidance and comfort! I'm thankful for all the blessings I've been able to see and have in the mission so far.
Con amor,
Elder Bruner
Playing with a spinner. Haha it was touching my eyebrow and that's why I have the funny face. These spinners are popular here now. More popular a month ago. Are they popular in the USA? (um, oh yeah)
