October 16, 2017 – Week 55!

Good week this week! I don't have tons to write, but I'll fill in the email as much as I can!

This week my companion turned 19! We kinda forgot to celebrate, but we ended up buying some chicken (like always) to make it a good day!

You know soccer is a big event here when the missionaries have to go inside their houses during the game. On Tuesday Peru was playing at 6:30, so we entered in our houses at 7. It just gets dangerous outside and the tempatation to watch the game would be strong, so President decided we should just be at home studying. We left earlier that morning to do proselyting so we could make up for the time in the night. I was able to study pretty well, but when Peru made a goal, wow the ENTIRE COUNTRY was screaming... Haha it was pretty cool to hear actually. I wish there was this much hype in the USA with soccer.

This week we've been able to visit Leo more. He's an investigator who's progressing and preparing for baptism! He accepted a baptismal date for the 28th of October! If I have transfers tomorrow I won't be able to see him get baptized, but I'm glad I've been able to at least start the teaching!

This week we also learned that people passing through problems really view us as angels. We were walking in the street and a member who had been inactive was a bit drunk. He came and talked to us and told us how great we were and asked us to stay strong as missionaries, because the world really can get to you. I'm not gonna go into details or anything, but I know from experience that a strong testimony is necessary. The world will always try to get us to fall, but as we grow our testimonies, we can withstand and resist all temptation! Just remember, God never gives us commandments that we can't obey or sends trials that we can't overcome!

We've been watching "The District" videos again, and even though sometimes they seem perfect or impossible to copy on your mission, it isn't true! We as a companionship have been trying to act more like the missionaries in those videos, and we have pretended that there were cameras watching us. It really works! If you think about what you are doing, you usually do better! Focus on the quality of your work and realize when you are getting distracted and it gets easier to keep the distractions away!

This past Sunday was the Primary Program in our ward here. SO CUTE! All the little kids were giving their talks and singing little primary songs and aaaahhhh I remember when I was doing all that. One of the kids in primary must've been 11 and really mature because she sounded almost like a missionary and was sharing her testimony like it was already the biggest testimony ever! Awesome. We had 3 investigators who came to see it, and they all loved it!

We also were having a little family home evening with the Marayahua family, and a member there was a returned missionary who served in Japan. He had to go to the MTC in Provo, Utah, and learn english first, and then japanese! He also served in a sector of Tokyo where there were pure brasilians, so he had to learn Portuguese as well! He speaks 4 languages! CRAZY! God really blesses us and gives us spiritual gifts to carry out his work!

Hope you all have a great week this week! The mission is awesome! I'll be letting you all know about transfers next week and if I'll be staying here yet another 6 weeks or not!

Ciao!
