July 23, 2018 – Week 95!
this week has been a great week!
We were able to find a bunch of new investigators this week! I think it was one of the best weeks with finding investigators that we've had this transfer! We knocked doors, and talked to part-member families, and found a lot of people that way! I know that as we just open our mouths, we will be able to share the gospel and the spirit will put into our mouths the words we should say. I was recently reading a talk from Elder Bednar, and it talked about personal revelation. If a thought induces us to do good, it is of God! We shouldn't think too long about if it is our own thoughts or thoughts from God, because as we think and then act and rely on the spirit to guide us as we act, we will be on the right path! I know that the spirit has guided my companion and I to know where to go and what to say to find these new investigators!
We also needed that to help some new investigators accept the baptismal invitation. this week, some new investigators also were able to accept baptism! Even though they attended other churches, or had other beliefs, they were able to feel that there was something desirable in our message. Sometimes they may even accept the invitation at first, not understanding it completely, and then after progressing and experiencing more of the gospel, they are able to feel the truth of it even more! I pray that these new investigators we have had this week will be able to feel the truth of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and will keep accepting the gospel! It's been kind of a difficulty for us to find investigators who will progress rapidly, but we will keep sharing our testimonies and helping them to accept the gospel!
One of the coolest experiences I've had with investigators accepting baptism was with a sister named Irene. She was the mom of an investigator who we were recently teaching, and as we went to find her (Jennifer), we found her mom, and taught her! This was during intercambios. We asked to share a passage of the Book of Mormon, which was Alma 7:7-15, and she loves the scripture! We had a member named Jonathan with us, and as he shared his testimony of baptism, the spirit filled the room. The scriptures mixed with all of our testimonies helped the invitation to baptism to be placed in the correct moment, and Irene accepted! I can't wait to go back and teach her more of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ! She wasn't able to attend church this past Sunday, so we will be teaching more about the Sabbath Day so that she will feel the need to come to church this next Sunday!
We also used English this week to find a new investigator, and also to help out some less active members! We may not have a formal english class planned, but when we can teach at least a few minutes of english for service, we do it! TONS of people here have english classes in school, and most of them need some service and help to finish homework, so we help them out! As we were visiting Isabel, (who did come to church and is progressing towards baptism, and is really curious about the organization of the church), we taught some English to her sister Luz. Then afterwards, we were able to share about the Restoration! It was a good trade off, right? haha. I know that little by little she will be able to accept the gospel, and it'll be a blessing to her and her family! The brother of Isabel and Luz is a recent convert, so as we are helping bring his sisters to church, we are also trying to strengthen him!
I can testify that the gospel brings many blessings to those who act according to its message. We may not be perfect, but as we try to continually improve and do our best, and receive guidance from the Holy Ghost, we will be guided to choose the right and we will be guided to where we are needed! I know that's true. Sometimes I've felt that days are difficult in the mission, but I've learned to think in place of that that "this will be a great day in the service of the Lord, and miracles will happen!" and then miracles usually happen! It's all about faith. Faith to move forward and confront all the challenges of life! This gospel is true. This is the church of Jesus Christ. He is my Savior, and I love Him.
Hope you all have a great week!
