April 17, 2017 – Week 29! – Happy Easter!
This week was great!
Easter sure is different here. It's called semana santa, and the things they do here are all Catholic. They have processions and lots of meetings in church, and nobody does Easter egg hunts or anything like that for kids. Some people have chocolates and candies like we do, but it's definitely not the same. They do have fireworks soemtimes during the week as well. It's interesting to see the difference though!
We were able to visit Leo this week once. He had some questions about the Book of Mormon, because he saw it had references to the Bible, but there weren't any Bible references to the Book of Mormon. So wee went to the Bible and showed him evidences of the Book of Mormon in a chapter, and it got him interested. We focues on prayer, because that'll be the only way for him to really know if all this is true or not for himself. I hope he gets the time to take a break from work and come to church one of these Sundays! He's awesome, and it's mostly time that makes it difficult for him to progress.
We also had an intercambio/trio this week with Elder Pender, because he's a secretary, so he just came and worked with us. He said the secretaries have a schedule difference, so it was great for him to be a "normal proseliting missionary"for a day. He's awesome! That day we had 32 contacts, and the goal is 25, so it was great!
This week during lunch we had an aji sauce from the selva with our food, and it was called pipi de mono.
We also had a lesson with the family of our Pensionista this week. It was really spiritually uplifting for us all, and It'll be awesome when they can all be sealed as a family for time and all eternity! I love them all, and they are so great!
Side note. It's always great when kids come up to you and say things like "do you speak english?" or "como se dice 'rojo' in ingles" or "do you have colored contacts in?" Haha the last one is one I got recently from a member's child. Because she wasnt used to seeing blue eyes here. Being different here is great. I love it, even if it may bother others.
That same family who had the daughter that asked me about my eyes had another daughter that just returned from her mission in Brasil. She had a strong portuguese accent. it sounded so different! Cool though. It'd be cool to visit there, or even down south or north in peru, where its huge mountains or deep jungle.
This week was awesome, and I feel like there's more to write but Idk what to write. I hope you all had a great Easter, or Semana Santa, or anything else realted to holidays this week!
I love being here in Peru. Always an awesome experience!
Con amor,
