August 21, 2017 – Week 47!
This week has been great!
Last Monday we had a kinda crazy contact with some guy in a park in front of where we were living. He had TONS of questions for us, and we were able to answer them all and he accepted our answers. It then always gets interesting when a guy says "oh, so you dont receive money from the church to live?" and we explain that we pay for our missions, and the next question ALWAYS is "where do you live / how much do you pay?" or "and you pay for food and everything too?" yeah then we're careful about answering questions. Haha questions are great until they get personal.
On Tuesday we found an investigator again whose name is Leo. We had taught him like 4 months before, but he wasn't progressing so we left him for a time. BUT... We found him again! And he had a greater desire to learn again! We taught about the gospel of Jesus Christ, and about baptism, and he accepted baptism! Later in the week we were able to teach him again after an activity open house in the church, and he really liked how ordered everything is, and how neat and clean and organized it is, and he was even giving us more references to go and visit! We taught him about the Restoration (Hope I'm spelling that right in English) of the Gospel, and he accepted to prepare for baptism again! He even is trying to change his job so he can come to church on Sunday! How awesome! He's a great investigator, and a great son of God with a lot of potential!
We also taught an investigator named Grecia this week too. It was an interesting lesson because her son was running around, but in the prayer at the end, I really felt the Spirit! She's great, and has lots of questions for us, which I hope we can help make clearer!
Peru and chicken. The 2 things that go together better than any other 2 things. We bought anjother 1/4 Pollo Broaster this week, with some SPICY rocotto. Ooh its so good. Gotta love the chicken in Peru! We have similar things in the USA too, but they put names to it here.
We also were able to teach a bit to our pensionista's sister in law (i think) during lunch, and it went well too! We were able to also answer some of her questions, and she opened up lots to the gospel! She said she's interested in having the missionaries come visit her too! Seed planted! It's always cool to see people who are receptive to the message of the Gospel.
There was a funeral in the ward this week, and we passed by,and the family asked if we could sing with the relief society for a few minutes as the family was there, and so we did! We started out with just voices, but then Brother Coloma came and he knew how to play the piano, and BEAUTIFULLY played some hymns as we sang. I felt the spirit so strong. I want to learn to play the piano better for this reason. Music is amazing and powerful.
The highlight of Saturday was the Capilla Abierta (chapel open house). We were dressed in white and talking about baptism in the baptismal font room as groups came in. We had quite a few nonmembers come to the event, and lots of them left names and addresses so that the missionaries could go and visit them later! It's a great event. I haven't seen it done in the USA much as an organized program, but it's cool!
Sunday was great because we were able to pass by some of the houses of the nonmembers who wrote down names to be visited! That's when we were able to have our second visit with Leo. We also visited some of the other references received, and many of them were receptive! Some weren't home, so we'll be passing by another day.
Today for P day we went to the Zoo! It's huge here in Peru! Hope I can send some pics!
I know that Jesus lives. I know that he is our savior and redeemer. I know that we may pass through hard trials, but we can ALWAYS look to the Savior as an example, and we can always turn to our father in Heaven for guidance. I know the Spirit works miracles in people as long as they let the miracles happen, and as long as they have desires to receive miracles!
The mission is great, the gospel is true.
Hope you all have a great week!
