September 18, 2017 – Week 51!
I am at the exact half point of my mission right now! CRAZY!
Well, this week has been huge and filled with good experiences and so I'm just gonna write and write and hope I can fit it all in.
Last P day was crazy. Elder Morales almost lost his USB. But thankfully nobody stole it in the hour that we'd been gone from the internet place, so that was a miracle.
The big highlight of the week was Elder Oaks coming to visit us and 2 other missions. We all met in the Molina Stake Center to have the meeting, which is right next to the MTC here in Lima, so I got to see a little bit of the outisde! It's awesome! We all took busses there, and arrived at about 10:40, and had to wait until 2 for the meeting to start. It was all worth it though! Elder Oaks, The presiding Bishop Caussé, Elder Montoy, and Elder Robbins (presidency of the 70) were all there and they all spoke, as well as the 3 mission presidents from Lima Central, West, and North. We also got to shake their hands. Well, it was amazing! Lots of the talks, if not all of them, spoke on repentance and the Atonement. It was very powerful. We really do need to have a testimony of the Atonement of Christ if we want to be teaching it to our investigators. When the wife of Elder Oaks spoke, she didn't say much, but she did say that Elder Oaks could see the future. We all looked at each other and silently were like "woooahhh"haha. Elder Oaks also taught about Exaltation. Baptism may get us to Salvation, but to be able to reach Exaltation in the highest degree of the Celestial Kingdom, we need to be married and sealed in the temple. It is necessary. All in all, it was a great meeting, and we all came out of it with something to apply as misisonaries. Hermana Larson also told us that as Elder Oaks asked the missions to stand and present themselves, and our mission stood, she felt power, and she said that missionaries in this mission Lima Central really show it. Not to say that other missions don't, because they for sure do. Every missionary in the world who is called to serve is special and is needed in the work of the Lord!
Of course, there's always opposition. When we got home from the meeting and were contacting, one of the first contacts told us "ustedes no me agraden, sigue en su camino por favor." Yeah, you can translate that. Kinda killed our hearts after such a great meeting, but we also applied what we learned in the meeting, that "failure after failure, there will be one success"
We also had a lesson with the investigator, Helfer, who has plans for the temple in Lima and works in designing the chapels. He even gave us plans for the Bolivar chapel because they're redesigning it. So cool!
We also were able to teach Hna. Esther again this week. We really focused on Faith and Goals, and she accepted a baptismal date! It will require a lot of faith, but I KNOW that everything and anything is possible when it's God's will and we have faith that it can happen.
Also, this week I had an assurance that the guidance of the spirit is real. We were teaching one of our investigators, Leo, and at the start of the lesson, we didn't feel focused and really didn't know where to go or what to say. We shared some scriptures, and then I invited Leo to, if necessary, leave his job to be able to go to church on sunday. I Guess I had said it in the right way, because my companion later told me that he was trying to focus on the way to invite him to do exactly that, but then I extended the invitation, and the worry to extend that invitation left, and we were able to teach more focused. We all felt a change from that moment on in the lesson. We felt the spirit, and we were able to teach the doctrine of the Sabbath day in a more focused manner. I didn't reaqlize it in the moment, but after the lesson I realized that the spirit really did guide me to say what I said in the lesson.
This sunday we also had some lessons with members, and a family home evening where we watched Joseph Smith, the prophet of the restoration. It was cool! The Gonzales family made us Lasagna and they invited a friend as well who isn't a member!
Well this week was great. The misison is awesome.
Hope you all have a great week! I love hearing from you!
